Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that caretaker boss Hans-Dieter Flick will be in charge for the foreseeable future.

Rummenigge has also said that he will call Arsene Wenger to explain the situation.

The former Arsenal boss was interested in the role and the Bayern chief has told him he’s not in the running.

Rummenigge told Sport1: ‘We will work with Hansi Flick until further notice. I have respect for Arsene.

‘We will call him and clear things up. I don’t want to stress him.’

Wenger has been a free agent for nearly a year and a half, and has always hinted he would soon return to the game after a host of vacancies popped up, but has instead worked as a pundit for various TV and radio stations.

But it’s unlikely the 70-year-old will be able to soak up the sun on holidays for much longer, as he’s been heavily linked to the post at Bayern after Niko Kovac was sacked last week.

Wenger has admitted he has held talks with the Bavarian club and spoke on the phone with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who he said asked if he was interested in the job.

He said he had told the supremo that he would ‘think about it’ as he was enjoying his holiday in Doha, but said he would think about it and get back to him after he returned.
